Compatibility Note

Some special keys (like Fn, Eject, or brightness controls) may not be capturable by the browser. Media keys and volume controls may or may not register depending on your OS and browser settings.

How to Use

  1. Click anywhere on the page to ensure the window has focus.
  2. Press any key on your physical keyboard.
  3. The corresponding key on the virtual keyboard will turn blue while pressed.
  4. Working keys will remain highlighted in green after they are released.
  5. Check the 'Live Info' section for detailed technical data about each key press.
  6. Use the 'Reset Board' button to clear all highlights and start fresh.

Stuck Key Detection

If a key stays blue on the virtual layout even when you aren't touching it, that key is likely 'stuck' or mechanically failing.

Anti-Ghosting Test

Try pressing multiple keys at once (like W, A, S, D, and Shift). If some keys don't register, your keyboard may have a low 'rollover' limit.

Browser Limitations

Web browsers cannot capture 100% of keys. For example, the 'Fn' key on laptops is usually handled by hardware and never reaches the browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use the keyboard tester?
It's automatic! Just open the page and start typing. Every key you press will be recorded and highlighted on the screen.
Why doesn't my Fn key light up?
The Function (Fn) key is typically handled at the hardware or driver level. It doesn't send a standard 'Scan Code' to the web browser, so we can't detect it.
Can I test my mouse buttons here?
This tool is specifically for keyboard input. For mouse testing, please use our 'CPS Test' or 'Double Click Test' tools.
